Competition and Collaboration in the PBL Environment

Here’s a little video (less than 2 minutes long) that we shot a while back talking about competition and how we can intentionally us it to bring a classroom together. Unfortunately, many of us use competition and it ends up tearing our classroom culture to shreds. We’re left wondering why these kids are so heartless toward one another.

But don’t mistake me: I don’t believe in the concept that every kid should win a trophy either.
So where does that balance lay in your classroom? with your next PBL unit?

How do you use competition to raise the urgency of finish lines and quality?

(before anyone says anything, I’m firing my lighting designer…ie, me.)
