So You're Teaching About the Meteor Today?

Filed under “just in time learning,” many teachers are spending a bit of their time today teaching about Chelyabinsk, the meteor that crashed in Russia this morning. What makes this interesting isn’t just the size or intensity of it, but also the fact that another, much larger meteor, officially known as “2012 DA14” is expected to pass nearby earth sometime today or tomorrow.

So, about that asteroid near Earth …

Yes, about that asteroid near Earth…

Kevin Honeycutt and I created a LifePractice PBL lesson called the Doomsday 1 that asks kids to consider the possibility of how to save the Earth from being hit by a killer asteroid that will someday come. Over the past 3 years, we’ve run this project with several schools across the US and today, in honor of the current events of today.

If you have students run this project today (or even later), please do let us know what you think! Doomsday 1 LifePractice PBL card (FREE download)

  2. If you want to call this “case-based learning” that’s cool too. “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” I just call it “learning by doing” and consider it good.
