…Because I Stand On the Shoulders of Giants…
“They” always tell us we should study those who are currently doing the job that we dream of having. So as I stepped out of the classroom 5 years ago, I spent a great deal of time intensely studying some of the greatest keynote speakers and education presenters out there. I watched and analyzed not just what they said, but how they said it, how they moved, and how they taught their audiences. Many of the greats I’ve been able to see in person but other presentations I’ve gobbled up word-for-word, frame-by-frame, action-by-action in video. All throughout my study, I’ve been learning what it takes to be not just good, but an amazing keynoter. And by being a voracious student, I’ve been able to develop uniquely my own energetic and pushy style of speaking.
At the same time I was studying — and not accidentally — I’ve also had the pleasure of helping to build, guide, and grow the Best Keynote stable of speakers that I’m also a part of. The Best Keynote partnership between Kevin Honeycutt, ESSDACK, and AESA includes many of the very speakers I’ve admired so much.
You see, what we all have in common is that we are in it for the students and educators in the classrooms right now. We’re the folks who hold educators and students up as role models and inspiration for the world. We’re the ones who come in humbly and will move chairs or empty trash because we understand the everyday life of an educator and we’re not above the hard work of our own role models.
More importantly, we know there are some folks out there providing less-than-stellar professional learning and are, in effect, stealing energy and resources from children, educators and schools. This, we cannot support.
So we work hard to be worthy of your time and attention. Because your community deserves it.
