Fun Tech-Based PBL's for Elementary Geography, Digital Citizenship, and Friendship

The backstory here is that Horace, who is a horse puppet, tries to be a travel agent for education consultant,  Kevin Honeycutt, figure out what’s going on in his upcoming location. Kevin travels the globe and is in a different location across the US and in international locations on a very regular basis. The problems start when Horace is … well … wrong.

In comes Cally C. Cow (the C stands for “Corrector”) and in her own, sweet southern way, she is, of course, correcting poor misguided Horace. Cally, played by me, points out where the information Horace is sharing just doesn’t seem right. However, Cally is a cow and doesn’t know all the right information. She does know, quite accurately, when Horace is WRONG though.

The takeaway is that this is a fun way to learn about different parts of the US and the world, as your kids listen to Horace, make predictions about what they think might be right or wrong about his information. And then students listen to Cally point out places that the children might check up on Horace.

They’re friends. And they want to make friends with YOUR students who need to learn geography skills. But it’s much more than that.

In this fun activity, students practice how to discern accurate information from misinformation, research for correct information, and learn how to be nice when helping out a misguided friend.
